Agile Automated Manufacturing

In a flexible manufacturing system environment there are three basic pillars on which gravitate its problematic, hence information and present technology. These are: production machines, computers and informatics systems as control elements and handling and transportation systems.

So far, research in this area has been focused mainly on the first two blocks, production machines and systems, but the same cannot be said for the last one. This is due to multidisciplinary that currently handling and transport systems present to the automated factory. There is an extensive literature on robots, pneumatics, programmable controls, etc. However, it shows a major lack in what concerns the interconnection of the media environment of automated manufacturing systems. And the study of this interconnection is precisely what is intended by this research: to integrate the field of handling and control systems in flexible manufacturing environments as a whole.

Work is in design, modeling and optimization of integrated manufacturing processes, with special emphasis on the automation of flexible manufacturing systems, simulation plants and production lines and intelligent plant design.
