Assistive Technologies

Witnessing a new framework that address disability/diversity from the focus of equal opportunities and places special emphasis on universal design, accessibility and the removal of barriers as a tool for integration, integration, inclusion and standardization. In this new framework, access to the knowledge society is a basic condition in the process of equal opportunities. From this perspective, it is necessary that the design of technologies are not as specialized design east or adapted to the disability, but focused and tailored to the needs of people, so different from one individual to another.

Inclusion is one of the horizontal themes common to all areas of the action plan of the i2010 initiative. Give special attention to European standards on web accessibility, guidelines on web accessibility initiative (WAI) and common labelling standards of accessible web pages and promoting access multiplatform (PC, digital TV, mobile phone 3rd generation, etc.) to improve accessibility for disadvantaged groups and regions.

Fundació CIM carries out R&D on this line, looking for innovative solutions, using different conceptual and methodological approaches from the Information and Informatics Sciences, as well as from relevant and effective use of Information and Communication Technologies.
