Rugosity Measurement
The topography can be defined as the morphology or configuration of a surface. You can differentiate two basic topographical features: rugosity and texture. All surfaces contain irregularities of different wavelengths which are superimposed on the shape of the piece.
The principle of contact profilometer is that the tip of a probe is moved at constant speed over the surface to be measured. It applies a load to the transducer to ensure that the probe does not lose contact with the surface. The movements are transformed into an electrical signal that is converted into digital information that can be displayed.

Applications

Control surfaces finish of any piece.

Advantages

- High precision
- Collection of 3D roughness
- Obtaining dimensional reports

Equipment

The Fundació CIM makes 3D measures of the rugosity by contact profilometry with a pneumatically TAYLOR HOBSON FORM TALYSURF S4C.
